Exotic Flower Paintings

The Bauhinia is the symbol of the City of Hong Kong and is sometimes called a Hong Kong Orchid Tree.  This medium subtropical is surprisingly hardy in spite of its delicate beauty, featuring orchid-like flowers and exotic leaves.  In Elena's Southern California garden it blooms from January through May.  This floral watercolor was painted en plein air as a demonstration piece for a workshop that took place in the artist's garden at El Refugio.
