Still Life Painting

A very personal work, this pastel still life was painted in October using seasonal cosmos, grapes and figs from Elena's garden and orchard.  The fall sun streams in low from a window to the right and reflects, both directly and indirectly, on the rippled vase from the surface of the family piano illuminating the sky and the dry hillside through the divided lites of the window.

The vase sits in front of a pastel landscape painted about one hundred years ago by Elena's husband's great-grandmother.  This work was the Continental Art Supplies Award winner in the Score VI juried art exhibition at the Viva Gallery in Sherman Oaks, California in October, 2007.
