Still life oil painting

Still Life Painting

This is a Still Life Painting in oil of fresh guava fruit in a basket made from coconut palm fronds that Elena bought in Maui, on the road to Hana.  Usually guava are associated with the tropics, but this variety thrives in the mild Southern California subtropical climate.  These guavas came from the artist's garden and were picked in December.  Elena's family eat them for breakfast by cutting them in half and scooping out the fruit with a spoon.  The scene depicted here in Elena's kitchen is a common sight in winter when the guavas are ready to serve.  The coconut basket by the window with the jasmine tea tin in the background and the light streaming in was a natural for this still life painting.
