House Portrait Commissions This house portrait of the Messana Residence in summer was Elena Roché's fifth commissioned house portrait. This house portrait was executed in a plein air style oil on canvas. This house portrait presented a special challenge to obtain interesting light and a view of the house because it was often in shadows from the numerous surrounding tall trees. In fact, Elena had to eliminate a palm tree that stood almost directly in the line of view of the house. This house was an award winner for the front yard landscaping, so the direct, head-on view, was chosen to feature the plantings. Her first house portrait commission, a soft, dreamy graphite and charcoal rendering, may be seen here and her second, a cheerful colored pencil cottage here. The third was a more precise graphite and charcoal. The fourth was executed in graphite and charcoal pencil on museum board. If you have succeeded in making a home of your house; if you have reached that point to where it's now the "home place", then perhaps it's time to immortalize the moment for generations to come and commission a house portrait. |
